DBA Specialist

You will be working in a team that is divided over Breda and Munich. The biggest part of the team is located in Breda, what would be your main location. All the support is done remotely, but occasionally it’s necessary to travel to Munich. The team works in a DevOps mentality, but also has close connections to its internal customers in a community style.

The functional steering is done by BMW ( located in Munich, Germany) and the disciplinary steering is done by Alphabet (located in Breda, the Netherlands).


Purpose of the role:

You would be supporting the DBaaS solution build team with the external provider steering and 3rd level support for BMW internal customers all over the world.


Core tasks:

The core activities are;

  • Provider steering
  • General: Support of DBaaS solution build and 3rd level support
  • Problem analysis

            o Support operations team and provider in analysis of incidents and problems

            o Documentation of results

  • Test support

            o Create and perform tests of new components, settings, concepts

            o Documentation of test results

  • Generic scripting

            o Create and maintain support scripts for reporting, monitoring and troubleshooting

  • Proactive evaluation and testing of new features / parameter settings
  • Support of solutions and operation team in terms of technical consulting


Knowledge and experience:

Education level :                             Higher vocational education (HBO)

Experience mandatory :                > provider steering

                                                           > Database preferably PostgreSQL

Experience optional :                     > Linux

                                                           > PaaS/Container Stack (Docker)

                                                           > OpenStack


Languages:

English : Very good on a professional level, both written and spoken

German : Able to fully understand written and spoken communication



What do we expect from you:

Mandatory:

  • Provider steering (Service Management, SLA).
  • Database general, preferably PostgreSQL (Replication, Extensions)
  • Generic Linux (OS tools, configuration)


Skills:

  • Be a collaborative social team player
  • Think out of the box
  • Ability to dive into technical topics
  • Ability to explain highly technical solutions in “normal” language to customers
  • Good documentation and communication skills, both within the group and to (internal) customers.


Optional:

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) mandatory, RedHat Linux Enterprise Server(RHEL) incl. AtomicHost
  • Scripting (bash, perl)
  • Troubleshooting and analysis (logfiles, tcpdump, kernel dumps)
  • OpenStack (Keystone, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Nova)
  • Scripting (python, ruby)
  • Storage technologies (Ceph, mandatory, Ceph FS, NAS, SAN and object storage)
  • Network technologies (vlan, vxlan, trunking, OpenVswitch)
  • Configuration management tools (Ansible)
  • Container and management technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, Marathon, Flocker)
  • State-of-the-art development concepts and tools (e. g. git, CI, CD)


Rates, starting dates and other relevant information:

40 hours per week assignment where the starting date is ASAP. The contract is for long term until 28th of February 2020. Rates are negotiable.
